Testimonials

“I returned to the piano as an adult after more than 20 years away, having long associated it with stress and exams. Jo has completely transformed that experience!

She takes the time to understand the music I enjoy, choosing pieces that feel engaging while gently encouraging me to try new things. What I really value is her focus on musicality — helping me play in a way that sounds expressive and beautiful, not just correct.

Jo is kind, patient and encouraging, and creates such a positive, supportive environment. It’s also a joy to play on her beautiful grand piano each week.

I would highly recommend Jo, especially to anyone returning to the piano as an adult.”

From the start Jo put M at ease while keeping her engaged and is always friendly and professional. I highly recommend Jo as piano teacher for any age or level.”

J, learning the piano as an adult beginner

“D has really been enjoying her piano lessons and looks forward to them every week. Jo has a wonderful way of tailoring each lesson to suit an incredibly wriggly 7 year old, blending book learning with the floor stave and dice so it always feels fun and engaging. D’s confidence and ability have grown so much, and we’re so grateful for such a patient and encouraging teacher.”

T, parent of D (age 7)

“Jo has been a fantastic teacher. She is incredibly friendly, patient, and genuinely passionate about teaching. From the very first lesson, she created a supportive and encouraging environment that made learning both enjoyable and rewarding. Her knowledge and ability to explain techniques clearly have helped me progress far more quickly than I expected.

In just a few months, I’ve seen a huge improvement in my confidence and playing ability. I’m truly grateful for her guidance and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking to learn or improve their piano skills.”

K, learning the piano as an adult beginner

“Both of my children (6 and 9) have been attending piano lessons with Jo since last summer. Jo is a brilliant teacher and is lots of fun. She is really positive with my kids and finds lots of clever ways to make her lessons enjoyable and engaging, like when she swaps positions with them and lets them be ‘teacher’ (they love that bit!).

My youngest can take a little while to warm up to new people and Jo really helped her to settle into her lessons (welcoming a number of cuddly toys onto the piano stool to join her!). It’s been great to see her confidence blossom.

Termly progress reports keep me appraised of key areas of progress and anything that we could support with practice at home.

I would describe Jo’s overall approach as holistic and fun, conversations during lesson time have covered topics from how the piano makes sounds (with a peek inside) to interpreting the story of the music, as well making all the relevant theory accessible and age appropriate. I’m impressed with the progress my children have made with her and most importantly they are really enjoying it!”

G, parent of L (age 7)

“I have really benefited from Jo’s meticulous and thought-provoking teaching style which promotes real musical artistry. Under Jo’s teaching, I feel more developed and confident in my musicianship and better equipped for time spent at the keyboard.”

B, adult student who has played since he was a child

“I’ve been attending lessons with Jo since summer last year. I feel Jo is keen to understand personal motivation to learn the piano and tailors her lessons accordingly. She’s keen to support me in my goals and thoughtfully selects pieces that might help me reach them faster, or that I will find enjoyable.

As a mum of two young kids I don’t have oodles of spare time to devote to my practice, but Jo has shared lots of clever techniques informed by knowledge on how people learn, to help me get the most out of my time at the piano.

If I have a query or problem she has a way of pinpointing the exact issue and suggesting a technique or practice to help me work on it. Her lessons never feel overly formal and her natural positivity and the joy she takes in her job make learning with her really enjoyable.

I look forward to my lessons – I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone.”

“Learning piano with Jo has been a very rewarding experience. Her educational credentials speak to her technical skills, but what really counts is the way she makes complex ideas easy to understand through simple, practical exercises that actually work.

Each lesson feels both challenging and fun – Jo has a friendly, down-to-earth manner that instantly puts you at ease. She makes learning enjoyable while helping you make real progress every week.

I couldn’t recommend her more highly to anyone looking to start or grow as a pianist.”

S, learning the piano as an adult beginner

“Learning piano again as an adult after several years away felt more than a little daunting but Jo has made the whole experience genuinely positive. Her patience is extraordinary, and she has a rare ability to rebuild your confidence gently, without ever making you feel like you’re starting from scratch.

Her teaching style is warm and encouraging, and she has a wonderful way of meeting you exactly where you are. She understands the unique challenges of returning to an instrument as an adult and somehow makes even the tricky moments feel manageable and rewarding.

I’ve grown so much more confident under her guidance than I ever expected, and I genuinely look forward to every lesson. If you’re an adult thinking about picking up the piano again, I couldn’t recommend Jo more highly. You’ll be in the kindest, most capable hands.”
